We know you are already gearing up for the March 2021 Edition of The Great TECNOphgrapher Challenge so we’re here to help with some tips and tricks to improve that outdoor smartphone photography game.
1. Plan like a Pro!
For a truly striking picture, you’ve got to prepare. Start by cleaning your camera lens with a soft cloth to get rid of the dirt and fingerprint marks for a cleaner photo. You could also try using a tripod, selfie stick or clip-on lens. While prepping, think about the timing and location of your perfect shot.
2. Basics Bro!
If you forget the basics, no hack will be able to save your shot. Skip the flash (work with natural light), don’t use the zoom feature (low-quality images), shoot in HDR mode (better editing), and always keep your phone steady.
3. What the Hack?
Try some budget-friendly hacks for pro-level images. A paper clip or plastic cup acts as a tripod. A drop of water on the phone lens has the same effect as a macro lens. Sunglasses can soften harsh light and act like an Instagram filter. Similarly, a light layer of vaseline on the lens, a plain plastic bag or a thin dupatta will give your shot a blurred-out effect.
4. When the Light is Right
The Golden Hour is also a photographer’s best friend and even professionals will agree that lighting is everything. Golden or Magic hour is the last hour before sunset and the first hour after sunrise and gives a warm, soft, dreamy and magic-like quality to pictures, especially portraits.
5. Break Some Rules
Yes, detail and contrast are important but even the most perfect compositions need to have a vision. Without the photographer’s own unique vision, no shot is truly impactful. Show us what you’ve got!
